These are three company scrip coins from the Anderson Chemical & Mercantile Co. In the 19th and early 20th century many factories and mills paid their employees with “scrip” coinage that could only be spent at the company store. In South Carolina these coins were sometimes called "Loonies" and were given to mill workers if they requested advance pay. Use of scrip currency largely disappeared in the 1940's: the coins were used for scrap for the war effort.
