Do you know an amazing educator? Our artifacts of the week this week are copies of Ms. Alice Lee Humphreys’ books, Three Hear the Bells and Angels in Pinafores. Ms. Humphreys was an elementary school teacher for more than 30 years, beginning in 1912 at the age of 19. She began teaching in the local schools at Pelzer and Level Land community before retiring at the Kennedy Street Elementary School in the 1950s. All three of her books are filled to the brim with stories of teaching good children, dealing with parents, and much more. Copies are available to read in our Roper Research Room, open Tuesdays 1PM to 7PM or by appointment.
