This exhibit focuses on Anderson’s educational history beginning with the Patrick Military Institute, established in 1878. Also discussed is the founding of Anderson University in 1911, the dozens of Rosenwald Schools for African Americans, and life in a one-room schoolhouse. A replica of such a schoolhouse is the exhibit’s centerpiece, including period desks, a wood burning stove, and a reading from McGuffy’s First Eclectic Reader.
